Mike's Training...

"Why?"

It's a question people ask me frequently. Many wonder why I would want to ride my bike 100 miles. Why would I want to climb up a steep hill that surely causes pain throughout my entire body? Why do I want to run a half marathon? A full marathon?

Well, my answer always start out the same way: WHY NOT?!?

I think a lot of people take for granted the fact they're able to get up each morning and go explore the world whenever they feel like it. I see each day I wake up and can go outside and get on the bike or go for a run as a true blessing. My father is going through a rough spell in which a few of his co-workers and friends are struggling, and I see the torment it has caused him. That sense of "why not?" has lit a fire under me, and is one of the driving forces behind my wanting to run a marathon.

As long as I have air in my lungs, then I don't have an excuse to simply sit on the couch doing nothing all day. Training will likely be tough. Intense. Brutal. I'll start out slowly and will increase the intensity of my workouts until I reach my goal, and failure is absolutely unacceptable.

I'll use this blog to help post updates as to how I'm doing, and what kind of mischief I'm getting into while out training.
